About Recruitment

We recruit each semester, during the Fall and Spring. Our recruitment week is structured where we first host an orientation night, this is where potential new sisters can meet our active sisters as we go through what it means to be a sister of Sigma Alpha and the steps to becoming an active sister.

How much of a time commitment is Sigma Alpha? 

As a pledge, you are required to participate in weekly meetings scheduled according to your schedules. You will take weekly quizzes on our history and a cumulative final. Additionally, you will participate in Big/Little, and have a pledge class philanthropy, fundraiser, and social.

 

As an active, we have weekly chapter meetings that are required, as well as additional events throughout the semester related to Ag in the Community, philanthropy, fundraisers, socials, and other requirements.​

What do I have to do to be considered? 

In order to be considered for membership candidacy, you must meet the minimum GPA requirement and attend a minimum of one recruitment night, although all nights are encouraged.

What is the minimum GPA requirement to be considered?

Our sorority has a minimum requirement of a 2.7 GPA.

Do I have to have a major within College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources to join? 

While we are a professional sorority affiliated with CAHNR, we do not require that your major is a part of the college, all we are looking for are potential sisters with an interest in agriculture!

What benefits are there?

Joining a professional agricultural sorority prioritizing scholarship, fellowship, leadership, and service offers academic excellence, networking, leadership development, and community service opportunities. Members connect through fellowship events, service projects, and gain resume-building benefits, leading to a fulfilling experience that prepares them for future success. How much are membership dues? 

While membership dues vary depending on many factors, in the past our dues have been approximately $140-200 a semester. We encourage potential new members to join us on orientation night for more information!

Are you Panhellenic?

We are not a part of the Panhellenic  Council, we have our own separate recruitment process.

Can I be in another sorority and join Sigma Alpha? 

You cannot be affiliated with any Panhellenic sororities on campus if you want to join Sigma Alpha, however, you can be in other professional or service sororities. 

When will Recruitment take place?

Recruitment usually takes place in early-mid September and early February. Typically, we do events Monday through Friday.

Can I bring a friend with me? 

Yes! Please bring a friend or many friends with you who may be interested in Sigma Alpha

What should I wear? 

All recruitment nights are casual dress.
